Galena Castles & Stately Homes
Built for Congressman Washburne in 1843, the Elihu B. Washburne House is open to the public every Friday from 10am to 4pm, May to October or by appointment. The house was built in Greek Revival style, with large pillars framing the front entrance. After the congressman, the building was owned by only one other family before being bought by the State of Illinois to be used as a historic site.
